Belarusian Articles
Learning how to use Belarusian without articles is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation.
Belarusian has no use of articles. In English articles are words that combine with a noun to indicate the type of reference being made by the noun. Generally articles specify the grammatical definiteness of the noun. Examples are "the, a, and an". However in Belarusian there is no article to be used. Here are some examples:
| English Articles | Belarusian Translation |
| articles | artiklі - артыклі |
| the | - |
| a | - |
| one | adzіn - адзін |
| some | nyeykі/nyeykaya/nyeykaye/nyeykіya - нейкі/нейкая/нейкае/нейкія |
| few | nyekalʲkі - некалькі |
| the book | knіga - кніга |
| the books | knіgі - кнігі |
| a book | knіga - кніга |
| one book | adna knіga - адна кніга |
| some books | nyeykіya knіgі - нейкія кнігі |
| few books | nyekalʲkі knіg - некалькі кніг |
As you can see from the example above, the structure in Belarusian takes a logical pattern. Examine how the absense of articles is used in the example above and see how it works with the rest of the sentence in Belarussian.
