Romanian Adverbs

Romanian adverbs are part of speech. Generally they're words that modify any part of language other than a noun. Adverbs can modify verbs, adjectives (including numbers), clauses, sentences and other adverbs.
Grammar Tips:
While in English adverbs are usually formed
by adding (-ly) to adjectives. In Romanian many
words are adverbs by nature. For example: Acum (now), de obicei (usually),
and adesea (often) are all Romanian adverbs.
It should be noticed that double negation is
often used in Romanian. In the example below there are two words with a
negative meaning: niciodată (never) and nu (not).
Niciodata nu sunt ocupat. – Word by word, the sentence would have the
following translation “I’m not never busy”. Obviously, it is meaningless in
English, but very common in Romanian.
Here are some examples:
| English Adverbs | Romanian Adverbs |
| adverbs | adverbe |
| I read a book sometimes | Citesc o carte, uneori |
| I will never smoke | Nu voi mai fuma niciodată |
| are you alone? | eşti singur/singură? |
As you can see from the example above, the structure of the Adverbs in Romanian has a logical pattern. Locate the Adverbs above and see how it works with the rest of the sentence in Romanian.
